Book Review: Lust (Saints & Sinners #1) by A.K. Knights
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up Lust, the first installment in A.K. Knights’ Saints & Sinners series. The premise sounded intriguing—Shadowhunters meets The Covenant—with a sprinkle of the occult, and it seemed too good to pass up. Little did I know, I would be completely swept away in a world of magic, tension, and sizzling romance that kept me turning pages late into the night!
From the moment we meet Luke, a legacy student at St. Lawrence College, I was drawn into his challenged life. Bullying from Brad, cryptic mind games from Cody, and Seth’s mysterious powers create a complex web of tension and intrigue. At first, Luke just wants to keep his head down and groove into his assignment. But something inexplicable pulls him into Brad’s orbit, and I felt every pang of confusion and attraction Luke experienced. Seriously, can we talk about how beautifully complex their relationship was? They began as enemies, but their journey to understanding each other is filled with moments that tug at your heartstrings (and maybe some other heart-related areas—wink!).
Knights expertly weaves together themes of self-acceptance, the struggle for power, and the importance of trust. The friendships forged amid the chaos had depth, and I appreciated how Luke’s determination to prove himself was woven into the narrative. The magical elements were equally captivating—learning about the Sinners and their unique powers enriched the overall story, allowing me to dive deep into their world. I truly enjoyed the training moments; it felt like watching a coming-of-age film with all the twists and turns I love.
I have to give a shoutout to the spice level—it was absolutely scorching! Their chemistry was palpable, and while I initially thought Luke and Brad focusing their powers through touching might be a tad excessive, I found it hard to complain because those scenes were just so hot.
Tim Paige’s narration brought Luke and Brad to life beautifully, enhancing the experience and making their emotional journey even more relatable. His reading was like having a friend recount the story; every character’s essence came alive in a way that made me feel deeply connected to their plight.
Now, there are a few unanswered questions that have me itching for the next book. Alexei’s odd behavior—what’s behind that? And does Dan know more than he’s letting on? I can already sense the tension building, and I’m ready for it!
If I had a small complaint, it would be that I wished the monster aspect played a more prominent role. But hey, with the way Lust is set up, I’m hopeful it will evolve beautifully in future installments.
Overall, I absolutely loved this book! It was sweet, spicy, and had a unique spin on magic that made it stand out in a crowded genre. I’d recommend Lust to anyone who enjoys a blend of fantasy and romance with a captivating storyline. Ready for a thrilling ride that keeps your heart racing? Look no further. I can’t wait to see where Knights takes us next—5/5 stars! 🌟
